Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan Summoned by NAB in Toshakhana Case

Khan faces investigation and must appear before NAB in connection with alleged corruption in Toshakhana gifts

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan is facing increased trouble as he has been summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in relation to the Toshakhana case. According to sources, Khan, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has been directed to appear before the NAB at 11 am on Wednesday, June 21.

The NAB notice issued to Khan instructs him to bring all relevant records pertaining to the gifts corruption case before the investigation team. Earlier this month, the Pakistan government filed a case against Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their close aides on charges of fraud and forgery. They are accused of allegedly preparing and submitting fake and forged receipts related to gifts received through the Toshakhana department.

Toshakhana is responsible for storing precious gifts presented to heads of state, bureaucrats, and officials by foreign governments and dignitaries. Khan and his associates are alleged to have submitted forged receipts, including one for a rare Graff wristwatch gifted by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The issue of Toshakhana gifts and their sale by Khan became a significant political matter when the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified him for providing false statements and incorrect declarations. Khan admitted in September of the previous year that he had sold at least four presents received during his time in office.

Imran Khan currently faces over 100 cases, while his wife Bushra Bibi is implicated in two cases, one involving the Toshakhana gifts and the other related to the Al-Qadir Trust. The NAB's summons to Khan adds to his legal challenges, further intensifying the scrutiny surrounding him and his party.
