"Famous Actor Jay Johnston Arrested for Alleged Role in Capitol Riot"
Actor Jay Johnston, famous for his roles on popular TV shows such as Bob's Burgers and Arrested Development, has been charged in connection with the January 6th U.S. Capitol riot. The 54-year-old actor was arrested on Wednesday and faces three charges, including a felony charge of civil disorder. According to court documents, Johnston is accused of unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol complex and confronting police officers as part of a mob of Donald Trump supporters. Prior to his arrest, Johnston was among the individuals sought out by the FBI for their involvement in the riot. Social media users recognized him from his various TV appearances, aiding law enforcement in identifying him. The actor, known for voicing the character Jimmy Pesto on Bob's Burgers, turned himself in to the police in California. Court documents reveal that Johnston was seen in front of the lower west terrace of the Capitol, which was one of the most violent locations during the riot. Allegedly, he used a stolen Capitol Police shield to shield himself and fellow rioters from law enforcement. Officials state that Johnston participated in a group assault on the officers defending the entrance in that area. As the mob attacked the police with pepper spray and other weapons, Johnston allegedly helped other rioters by pouring water on their faces. He then joined in pushing against the line of officers. Before leaving the area, Johnston passed the stolen police shield to another rioter. Despite the charges against him and his alleged involvement in the January 6th riot, Johnston has not publicly commented on the matter. Following his court appearance, he was released on a $25,000 bond. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to identify and hold accountable those involved in the U.S. Capitol riot. Through the assistance of vigilant social media users, the FBI has been able to locate and apprehend individuals linked to the attack. The charges against Johnston serve as a reminder that the consequences for participating in such unlawful actions can extend to individuals from all walks of life, including those in the entertainment industry.
